Autumn is my favorite season. I love the scent of burning leaves and woodsmoke. The air is crisp with the scent of apples and the roadside stands are filled with an abundant supply of pumpkins, gourds, hay bales and corn stalks. This is the perfect time to decorate your home with nature’s bounty. Look to nature for inspiration in your color scheme, warm golden yellow, russet red, chestnut brown and persimmon orange.
First impressions are usually the ones that last. Your home entrance and foyer is the area that your guests will see first, give them a taste of what is to come. Add touches of the season to your front door and entrance foyer with seasonal décor.
Quick ideas to spruce up your entrance
Cluster mums in an old wagon or wheel barrow, create different heights by placing some on bales of hay. Throw in a few small pumpkins to complete your display.
Gather a few bunches of wheat and tie with decorative ribbon or raffia, add in a few branches of autumn leaves and bittersweet, now place on your front door and stand back and admire your work.
Add a garland of grapevine around your front door, tuck in silk flowers, leaves and berries in the color of the season.
Don’t forget your mailbox, wrap some grapevine around the post and add in some berries.
Add some glitz to a contemporary décor. Spray paint pumpkins in silver, gold or copper metallic and place by your front door, it’s the unexpected!
Use a hollowed out pumpkin to hold your floral arrangement. Place floral foam or a floral frog in the base of your pumpkin. Gather flowers, branches, vines and berries and arrange inside. The arrangement can be made as small or as large as you want, depending on the size of the pumpkin. For added drama, spray pumpkin and branches with metallic paint. This display looks stunning on a foyer console table.
Take time to enjoy the crisp autumn days. Take a long walk and enjoy the changing foliage, sit by a lake or stream and watch the wildlife. Go on a farm tour, visit a petting zoo, or simply dream away the hours under a tree. This is the season to enjoy the outdoors; nature has created a beautiful palette for all to embrace.
